You may have heard the World Equestrian Games are being held in the United States for the first time ever, but did you know anything about the chief sponsor of the event, Alltech? I didn’t know anything about them either until the World Equestrian Games came to Lexington, Kentucky, which is just one hour from me.
So who is Alltech? Alltech makes and sells animal feed, with an emphasis on improving nutritional content naturally. The company recently teamed up with California feed maker O.H. Kruse to develop and launch Green Feed, a feed for horses that uses locally available ingredients, has minimal grain content in order to use less of the global food supply, contains the optimal amount of supplements to decrease the nutrient content wasted into manure and reduce the risk of ground water contamination, and is sold in bags made of recyclable materials and printed with soy-based ink.
In 2009, Alltech was named one of the top Green Companies by Inc. magazine. Dr. Pearse Lyons, who founded Alltech in 1980, thinks highly of animal health, especially that of livestock. That’s why he started Alltech, a manufacturer of natural ingredients for use in animal, alcohol, and food production, mainly animal feed supplements. Lyons’ goal is for Alltech to be Kentucky’s third “super-brand”—after Kentucky Fried Chicken and Muhammad Ali.
