How Does Feng Shui Work In Your Environment?

Feng shui is known to be the art and science of manipulating local environments in order to create a positive living or working space. When this is achieved people in those spaces will be naturally happier, healthier, and more creative. It is important to examine the way in which feng shui creates a positive environment.

Feng shui is based upon the principle that energy exists within everything, and is therefore a constant surrounding force. There is a parallel theory in science with the study of quantum physics. Both fields seek to understand how this unseen energy can affect lives and behaviour. Furthermore, feng shui attempts to present a way of controlling this energy in order to create harmonious environments.

It is believed that these sorts of environments can only be created when the energy, or qi, within them is in balance. This is based upon the principle of yin and yang. The methods used to bring about this balance in energy have been proven over thousands of years since they were first developed in ancient China.

These methods make up the art and science of feng shui. They allow practitioners to measure and monitor the energy in a given location, and to take action to correct any imbalances in order to create a harmonious living or working space. Some of the methods have an immediate and obvious impact on the local environment as well as the emotional state of its inhabitants. For example, feng shui advises against any clutter being present in a home or office. When people clear up clutter they not only make spaces look better, but they feel more positive within themselves.

Other aspects of feng shui are much more complicated. Every object within a house or office will have an effect on the local environment based on its substance and color. Feng shui relies on the five elements of water, wood, fire, earth, and metal, and the colors which represent them, to determine how to ensure that the energy within a space is in balance.

Certain elements can conflict with one another in specific areas within a building. For example, the metal element can often clash with wood within a space, as can fire. Great care must be taken to ensure that one element does not overpower another. A feng shui practitioner can identify problems such as this, and can then take action to correct the imbalance.

This is done initially by observing an environment and then applying the principles of feng shui, however it is often the case that a tool called the Bagua map is used as well. This map is used in conjunction with a compass to chart the areas of a building which are the most harmonious, and which could bring about health, wealth, and happiness if set up correctly.

A skilled feng shui practitioner will be able to make immediate changes to an environment in order to make the energy more balanced. A space might have too much cold, lifeless metal in it for example, and would benefit from the introduction of some living plants with rounded leaves.

This is just one example of the many improvements which can be made to a space in order to allow the positive qi to flow freely. Once set up correctly using the principles of feng shui, a living or work space will have energy which is balanced. The people living or working in it will then begin to feel the benefits of being in a harmonious environment.
