Find a Good Electrician | Choosing a Quality Electrical Service Company

Tips on How to Choose an Electrician in Your Area

Finding an electrician you can trust to take care of the electrical needs in your home can be a daunting task. With so many options to choose from and so many factors to consider, the process can seem overwhelming, if not impossible.

Although finding a reliable technician usually requires a little research, there are a few things you can look out for that will help you narrow down your search for a quality electrician:

  • Insurance. When it comes to choosing a good electrician, insurance is a must. Not only does insurance protect you if an accident occurs on your property during the job — it can also save you from spending hundreds (even thousands) to fix costly mistakes made by a less-than-reputable electrician. Insured electricians typically receive ongoing training to ensure they are up-to-date on the latest service practices and safety regulations.
  • Experience. Although newer electrical service companies can be just as reliable as more well-established ones, length of time in business is typically a good indicator of quality of work and reputation. Not only do established electrical service companies have more collective industry experience — they will also be more familiar with the area they serve and the electrical issues faced by the clients that live there. At North Carolina’s Bryant-Durham Services, our experienced electricians have been providing commercial and residential customers with quality electrical services for more than 50 years.
  • Number of Employees. For most electrical service companies, experience and size of business typically go hand in hand. Established companies tend to have a solid team of electricians, and a company with too few employees could be an indicator of a shady, “fly-by-night” business. It’s usually smart to stay away from brand-new electrical service companies unless you’ve heard good reviews from reliable sources, like family members or friends.

Ask Around!

One of the best ways to find a quality electrician is to ask family, friends, neighbors or colleagues for recommendations. Another option is to search online review sites to see what previous or current customers are saying about electrical service teams in your area. With just a little research, you’ll be well on your way to finding a dependable electrician in your area!

  • I like how this emphasized on insurance. I think every kind of service should have insurance, but I think it’s especially important for electricians, because if there are mistakes, it could result in fires. I never thought about number of employees though. It makes sense that a good number of electricians in one company would be a good thing. Plus, it probably makes it easier for them to get to work on your place as soon as possible.

  • Thank you for sharing all this great information about hiring an electrician. One thing that really stood out to me was the fact that you need to look at their insurance. It would be bad if something went wrong and they couldn’t cover it.

  • If anyone needs Electrical contractor for Domestic and Corporate unit in Traralgon, Latrobe Valley Gippsland can contact us for quote. We boast a massive 60 years of collective electrical experience and have certificates and licensing to get your electrical work done.

  • There is a difference between how long the company has been around and how long the electricians have been working for. However, the two don’t contradict each other. If the company has been around for a long time, it is for a good reason. They will have electricians with lots of experience and they will be able to teach the younger ones too.

  • I had no idea that you could ask electrical service companies for their insurance information to make sure they’re properly insured. I also appreciate your tip that you can gauge the experience of an electrical company based on the size of the company. I’ll be sure to keep your article in mind the next time I need electrical services.

  • My wife and I are looking to do some work in our kitchen that will probably need some electrical work done. The article mentions that experience is something you should consider when choosing an electrician. Would you suggest we use an electrician that has previous experience in remodels?

  • These are good tips for finding a good electrical service. Experience is a big deal to me, since that just means they know what they are doing. A bad company won’t stay in business for years, so that’s what I’ll look for.

  • For the past few days, there has been a problem with my kitchen light turning on and then back off and I haven’t really been able to handle it right now. I liked that you had mentioned that it’s very important to look for an electrician with experience that has been in the business for a while now. We’ll have to start looking around for a licensed electrician that is experienced that can help with our kitchen problem.

  • I’m glad that insurance is one of the first things that the article encourages readers to look for when choosing an electrician. After all, no matter how experienced you are there is going to be a part of electrical work that is always going to be dangerous. Because of this, you have to make sure that any electrician you hire will be protected if they get hurt on your property.
