How to Recycle Your Eyeglasses

After the holidays, during relocation or in the midst of any cleaning frenzy, there are number of items discovered and uncovered that just don’t do the job anymore! But if you give those unwanted but still perfectly good and valuable things into the hands of people who want, need and value them then surely that’s a great thing to do.

Like if you’re switching on to a new pair of eyeglasses, then rather than simply throwing out the old pair, why not donate it to someone who really needs it. Recently, one of the most renowned UK physicists, Professor Joshua Silver stated that around half the world’s population needs corrective eyewear yet has no access to it. So, now before tossing out your old pair of eyeglasses, consider its potential value to others.

Today there are a number of organizations that will take your old glasses and make it available to someone who really needs it. Lions Club International is one such organization that collects more than 20 million pairs of glasses each year and has been collecting these old pairs for over 80 years. Lions host 18 Eyeglass Recycling centers in the USA and around the world.

Unite For Sight has provided eye care to more than 1.3 million people worldwide. This organization supports eye clinics worldwide by investing human and financial resources in their social ventures to eliminate patient’s vision disorder.

New eyes for the Needy, is yet another organization that has taken constructive steps in this regard. They have improved the eyesight of more than 7,500,000 people in the U.S. and around the world. New Eyes have strengthened their roots by joining hands with thousands of social service agencies, optical dispensers, and vision missions. Global Eyeglasses is one such organization that has finalized a partnership with them. As a part of this partnership, the company will now support the charitable organization’s recycling and distribution program for prescription glasses.

Your donation of eyeglasses will enable many people to see clearly for the first time. This simple act of charity will impact many lives for years to come. So act now, and donate that old pair of eyeglasses to provide the gift of sight to someone in need.
