There is no reason that your personal beauty and the beauty and health of the planet should be mutually exclusive. To the contrary – there are countless ways to make yourself feel and look your best without doing harm to the environment you love and enjoy. The team from Mom Curls feel the same way too. Below are a number of easy do-it-yourself projects for at home beauty care, as well as several products that you can find in many drugstores. Try them all or pick just one!

At home shampoo and conditioner. Washing and nourishing your hair can be done without buying expensive, fancy products. You can clean and condition your tresses with ingredients found in your pantry. For shampoo, just mix up a basic concoction made up of one part baking soda and two parts water. (Yup, that’s it.) For conditioner, whisk together two eggs with some water and gently massage it into your scalp. The proteins will act as natural conditioners. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly so your hair doesn’t smell like breakfast. But if that’s too hard, there’s an even easier conditioner option: olive oil. Just rub some into your hair, cover it with a shower cap, and rinse after thirty minutes.

An easy scalp refresher. Give your scalp the equivalent of a splash of cold water on your face with this simple and easy one recipe. Combine equal amounts of water and vinegar. Rub it into your scalp and wash as usual the next morning. You’ll see a difference right away.

Highlight your hair with chamomile tea. Chamomile tea is an amazing natural beauty product. It has so many uses, you’ll be surprised you thought it was just for drinking! Instead of using bleach – which is harsh on the environment – try rinsing your hair with some chamomile tea, brewed extra strong, for a few nights in a row. Even the ladies with dark locks will see a lightening effect. Then, for an extra bonus, allow the tea bags to cool and once they are warm instead of scalding, put them on your eyes. They’ll get rid of puffiness in no time.

A few great products from the pharmacy. Most drug stores will carry at least a few brands that will be natural and/or organic. The trick is not to fall for a pretty package or bottle. A few good brands include Organix hair products, Kiss My Face Organic products (their mousse is great), and Dr. Bonner’s. Skip the chemicals and look for something natural!

Draw yourself a warm, relaxing oatmeal bath. A beautiful body starts with clear, moisturized skin. An oatmeal bath is a great way to go to make your skin smooth to the touch. Just put some oatmeal in a cheesecloth or coffee filter, tie it with a hairband, and run the tap. The only difference is that you should tie the oatmeal pouch to hang underneath the tap water. You’ll end up with a lovely, detoxifying bath that will make your skin look and feel refreshed and smooth.
