How to Naturally Get Rid of Pests in Your Home and Garden

Let’s all be honest: No one likes a pest, especially when it’s a bug or rodent within our home. However, just because we would prefer that it gets out of our house just as soon as possible, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we want to deal with all of the chemicals and toxins that oftentimes come with hiring an exterminator. After all, it’s not like we want to put our own health in jeopardy just to get rid of something that is so much smaller than we are.

That’s what this article is all about. We are here to provide you with five tips that can help you to get rid of a variety of pests, the natural way:

Fruit flies. Perhaps one of the most annoying kinds of pest is a fruit fly. They are small and they seem to come out of nowhere, sometimes while we’re eating our food. If your tolerance level is short for these little bugs, put out a bowl of half apple cider vinegar and half dish liquid wherever they “hang out” the most. In a couple of days, they’ll be as good as gone. (Wiping down surfaces with apple cider vinegar that has ants is a miracle “cure” to rid yourself of them too!)

Bugs in your garden. As you’re trying to grow your greens and tomatoes, the last thing that you want are bugs eating away at your crops, right? One simple thing that you can do to keep them at bay is to put crushed eggshells around your plants. There’s something about the scent that slugs, snails and other critters simply do not like.

Spiders. Do spiders freak you out? If so, a great way to get rid of them is by purchasing some orange oil. By placing it around your windows and doors, you should be able to deter spiders from coming into your house. For some reason, citrus scents do not sit well with them, so even an orange peel or two would probably work for you if you’re in a bind.

Bed bugs. If you have a problem with bed bugs, you might automatically run to a site like http://www.activepestcontrol.com, thinking that there is no natural solution. There actually are several of them, though. You can put some rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle and spray your bed with it. You can sprinkle lavender, cilantro or red pepper on your mattress. You can also fill some small cloth bags with herbs like rosemary or eucalyptus leaves and put them in your pillowcases or under your bed.

Mice. If you have seen a mouse and you want to remove him in a humane way, there are a few things that you can do. You can put some Bounce dryer sheets in areas where you have seen him hanging around, you can put some peppermint oil-soaked cotton balls in the corners of your house or you can put some kitty litter in several trays and place them in the kitchen and living room. Rodents don’t like the way that any of these smell, so it usually sends them out of your house—alive and well, but still gone! But still, if there are any insistent one left, you can use the live mouse trap to catch and release them in a convenient way.
