Top 5 Misconceptions about Green Ethical Hybrid Cars

Many drivers across the United Kingdom would love to purchase a hybrid car for their next vehicle. These are green, ethical vehicles that can save you money in fuel expenses, are great for the environment and can provide you with pride of ownership. However, if you are like other drivers, you have shied away from buying one of these cars for one reason or another. The fact is that there are some popular misconceptions about these cars. With some education about these myths, you may discover that you do want to buy a hybrid car for your next vehicle after all. Ethical car insurance maybe a little more expensive but you do save much more in the long term!

1. “A Hybrid Car Needs to Be Plugged In”

You may have heard that a hybrid or green car runs partially on an electric battery, and this is true. However, this battery is designed to recharge itself with your regular use. The innovation and technology in these batteries allows your efforts at applying the brake to recharge the battery. There is no plugging in or charging required on most models. However, some car manufacturers are introducing new types of batteries to the market that would allow a hybrid vehicle to be plugged in when needed to replenish the battery supply.

2. “The Battery In a Hybrid Car Won’t Last Long”

When hybrid cars were first introduced years ago, this may have been true. However, the batteries in today’s hybrid cars are designed to last between 100,000 to 200,000 miles in some cases. In fact, many manufacturers offer a warranty period on these vehicles that covers the battery for 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

3. “Hybrid Technology Is Not Proven or Reliable”

The fact is that hybrid technology has been in the works for decades. For example, Porsche was working on a gas-electric hybrid engine in 1900. Furthermore, the vehicles have been available in marketplace for over a decade now, and the technology has further been refined.

4. “These Cars Are More Expensive to Own”

While few will argue that owners of hybrids save money at the pump, many argue that the cost of the vehicle and the cost of maintenance make the car more expensive to own overall. The truth is that, depending on your driving habits, you may never or rarely have to fill up your tank when driving a hybrid. How affordable the vehicle is for you depends on how you drive and which other vehicles you may be considering.

5. “The Technology Is Too Expensive”

There are now more hybrid models available to purchase than ever before. It is true that some models are priced at the same level as a high-end sedan or luxury SUV. However, others are priced closer to the level of a mid-sized economy car.

If you have the desire to own a hybrid car to save money on fuel, to protect the environment or simply to have a high tech, innovative vehicle, take time to look into the models available to you today!
