Energy Efficiency is a hot topic of discussion almost everywhere as Green Energy and its importance has become one of the major concerns of all nations. The effect of pollution on the greenhouse gases and its devastating impacts on our environment is the major reason for the Green Energy movement. Green Energy is using the energy obtained from renewable sources of energy such as wind, solar, hydro power etc. Our dependency on electricity is increasing on a day-to-day basis due to the population growth and the imbalance in supply and demand chain. Each and every individual can take small steps to reduce the energy consumption by initiating the required actions starting right in the homes and apartments. We can keep our planet cleaner and greener by using energy efficient appliances.

Tips for Purchasing Energy Efficient Appliances

  • Style and size of the appliance ā€“ Always select the size of the refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances depending on your day-to-day usage. Large appliances consume more energy; it is useful only when there are more members in the family.
  • Calculate the estimated use and the purchase price ā€“ When you buy energy efficient appliances always check the label for the energy usage and calculate your daily usage and compare it with your purchase price. You can save more money on a long-term basis by buying high energy efficient models which may seem a little pricey at first, but the benefits you reap will be more valuable.
  • Check for the Energy Star Rating – The Energy Star rating for a product is usually marked on a scale of 1 to 100. Best products will have ratings closer to the upper end (100). For example, a refrigerator with energy star rating more than 75 is rated in the high in the performance category when compared to the refrigerator with energy star rating of 50.
  • Energy Guide Label – Read the information provided in the Energy guide label. The label generally consists of the following information:
    a. The Model number and the Manufacture number
    b. Information on the size, features and capacity
    c. The energy efficiency rating of the product
    d. A comparison of the energy efficiency rating among other models
    e. Information on the operating costs and energy usage which will be available in the fact sheets and product directories
  • Gather Information on discounts and offers on energy efficient appliance appliances ā€“ The customers are encouraged to purchase energy efficient appliances sold by the vendors who provide E.M.Iā€™s and low monthly installments to boost their customers participation.
