Monitoring Your Brand’s Green Business Image Online

If you own or work for a company that has an eco-friendly platform, congratulations. This means that you are a part of a business that is conscious about and committed to the needs of the environment. What this also means is that in the media world, you are connected to a network of other companies that have a similar agenda and focus. So, while it’s admirable that you are being energy efficient, you also have to make sure that you do all that you can to keep your image of being responsible and savvy intact.

One way to do that is by putting forth the concerted effort to monitor your brand’s green business image over the internet. If you would like some tips on how to make that happen, check out these five below:

Check your social media pages (regularly). Pretty much every company has a Facebook fan page and Twitter account, but that doesn’t mean that all of them check their comments on a consistent basis. There are a lot of keystrokes that are used in social media. Make sure to look at the comments that are being made and to directly address any questions that may be asked.

Sign up for Google Alerts. Something that just about anyone should do is make it a point to “Google themselves” on fairly regular basis. That way, you can see when your company has been referenced in any kind of press whether it’s a newspaper, radio or even online publication. If you don’t feel like you will remember to do so, sign up for Google Alerts. They’ll email you the results directly.

Consider using Monitor This. If you simply don’t have the time to do a lot of consistent checking, there are websites that will do a lot of the work for you. One of them includes Monitor This. Basically what it does is assist you in creating an OPML file that has feeds from other sites including Yahoo, MSN and Flicker.

Try Trackur. One thing about green companies is that they are always evolving as they receive more information and tips on how to improve what they are doing (which is one reason why you might want to consider having a Intelius removal about your company performed; just to make sure there isn’t any errors that are being published). Trackur is an extended version of Monitor This because aside from simply checking out major websites, it also goes through blogs and video sites to see if you are being mentioned there as well. (Technorati is another tool that tracks for “blog chatter”.)

Keep up with your customer service skills. There is absolutely no way that you can run a business and make everyone happy all of the time. There are simply far too many kinds of personalities, each with their own levels of expectations, for that to happen. However, if there is one language that is universal, it is common courtesy. When you make it a point to extend good customer service (whether by email, mail or phone) to your customers or potential clients, in a way you are monitoring your online image because the more consistent you are in good standing and the more good reviews that you get, the better the reputation of your business will have. And that’s the sign of having a successful green business.
