What is cardiac arrest?
Cardiac arrests happen when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body, and if they are not treated immediately, they can prove fatal within a matter of minutes. Most cases of cardiac arrest are caused by an abnormal heart rhythm called a ventricular fibrillation, and this can be triggered by anything from coronary heart disease and congenital heart disease to electrocution, severe blood loss and choking. Because cardiac arrests can happen anywhere and at any time, it is important to be prepared. If you want to know the facts about these medical emergencies, take a look at this Steroplast infographic.
