5 Helpful Ways to Go Green with Your Pet

Going green with your pet can be a good choice for you, as well as other pet owners out there. But if you need ideas on how to start, Coops and Cages content curator, Jordan Walker, recommends some ways so you can get your plans started.

Saving the planet while taking care of your pet can be a grueling task. Although the whole ordeal seems very impossible to achieve, that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. You can always keep Mother earth happy and your furry best friend healthy with the following tips.

Use Organic Pet Food.

You should be very meticulous when it comes to choosing a pet food, just like how you select food for the entire family.

For your pet, 100% organic food is the best choice. Because these are fresh and all natural, they don’t contain harmful chemicals and toxic ingredients. But if you are in doubt, you can verify this by carefully checking the labels for any suspicious or unhealthy ingredients on various commercialized dog food products. Another healthy option is low sodium dog food.

If you’d like to personally prepare the dog food yourself, you may whip out simple raw or cooked food recipes for your pooch. Certified organic and fresh vegetables and fruits, along with FDA certified food grade meat are recommended.

Ecological Goods Must be Used.

Yes, you can save the planet by using sustainable pet accessories and toys for your pet. Since these are made with durable fiber and recycled materials, your pooches an enjoy playtime better.

If you’re not quite fond of buying ready-made toys for your pet, you can look around at home for other materials and objects that are still useful. All you have to do is use your imagination and be resourceful.

Eco-friendly Home Materials Are Ideal to Use.

Just like people, dogs need to rest comfortably in their own home and bed. An eco-friendly home or a timber dog kennel can be used as cozy beds because these are made of organic cotton or wool.

If you’d rather save a few bucks, then you can get a cardboard and stuff it with old cotton sheets that you no longer wear. This can still be as comfortable, but not as costly.

Observe Proper Waste Disposal.

Not all pets are capable of going to the toilet. So many pet owners end up picking up their pooch’s waste after messing up. Unfortunately, most of them use non-biodegradable products that fill up landfills pretty fast.

To resolve this problem, pet owners must use biodegradable bags in disposing dog poop. Or better yet, they may use the dog waste they collected and turn them into compost or fertilizer.

Use All Natural Pet Grooming Products.

Without a doubt, there are so many pet care products out there for pet owners to choose from. Each of them are made by manufacturers that claim to be using the best set of ingredients, which then makes the selection process even more challenging.

Basically, the key to choosing the perfect product is to think about your pet’s well-being, as well as the product’s effect to the planet. Hence, you need to stay away from toxic shampoos and cleaning products, and go for those that are guaranteed to have only natural and safe ingredients.

When it comes to going green with your pet, every decision you make is crucial and will have an effect to the environment. In most cases, it could even help you save up a couple of bucks, but for sure, it’ll also help save the planet. Although the results aren’t really evident, these methods are surely worth a try.
