Mother Nature seems to be very unhappy these days. The weather has been extra unpredictable– one moment it is hot, the next hour, the rain will be pouring so heavy. There have been earthquakes in different parts of the world, flooding and other natural calamities that would make us wonder about global warming.
We cannot blame Mother Nature since it is us- humans who made all these damages. However, it is not too late to play our part in repairing the harms that have been done. In our own little way, we can contribute in healing the environment.
Let us discuss some ways on how to make our home office more environmentally friendly. We spend most of our time there so it is important that we ensure that the place is helping to restore the beauty of the Earth and most especially, that we do not cause any more additional damage.
Go Digital
Buying and using bond papers and other types of papers can be really bad for the environment. Do you know how many trees were cut down to supply those papers? Just go digital, which is not only good for the nature but also easier to do and manage. Send emails instead of writing or printing mails or memos. If you will be sending invoices, then you can try different apps that produce such type of documents. If you really need to use papers then it is recommendable to use recycled papers. Make sure to stock with re-usable pens too.
Use Natural Light
Did you know that artificial lighting represents over 40 percent of electricity consumption in a regular office building? For your home office, it is better to stay away from artificial lighting. Light the room with natural light from the sun. Open your windows during the day to receive sunlight. It is healthier to use LED lights too, which consume lesser electricity.
Power Down
Did you know that machines and appliances that are on stand-by mode but still plugged in on electric socket still consume electricity? It is a big waste of energy that you can easily prevent by totally shutting down the power. Remove the plugs of those printers, scanners, computers and other appliances as you sleep at night.
Buy Re-manufactured ink cartridges
Re-manufactured cartridges do not only cost cheaper than the brand new ones but each re-used cartridge also saves around 2.5 pounds of metal and plastic and half a gallon of oil that are big environmental culprits.
Go Green with Indoor Plants
Lastly, it is advisable to literally go green in your home office by including indoor plants and trees. It will help purify the air in the room making the atmosphere refreshing and cool. Also, it adds beauty in the room! There are available indoor plants online that you can check out to have some delivered to your home office.
Help the environment by making sure that your home office is environmentally friendly without sacrificing functionality and efficiency. It will indeed make you feel even better knowing that you are working in a clean, fresh and healthy environment.
Going #digital is the future and it is a great way to go #paperless. Unfortunately, I have not had good luck with re-manufactured ink cartridges. My printer just does not like them. Love this blog!
