3 Steps to Increasing the Longevity of Your Upholstery

upholsteryMany of us neglect the care of our upholstery and furniture not because we like to do so but because it calls for so much work to keep them spotlessly clean.  It is easier to note stains and dirt on the carpet and quickly clean them out.  This gives priority to the floors instead of the furniture that we sit on every day.

Did you know your furniture and upholstery though it looks all clean can be home to allergens, bacteria, and mold that you have no idea exist?  Considering what makes up the furniture that you sit on every day, then it makes sense as to why it absorbs all the dirt.

Underneath the beautiful top fabric are the padding or cushions that seep up spills like a sponge making it impossible for a non-commercial cleaning solutions to completely clean.  Even dusting or wiping does not move the bacteria from the top fabric.

As you apply commercial cleaning solutions for your home, it is very critical to ensure that the cleaning methods are friendly to your fabric.  Invest only in those solutions that care for the longevity of your upholstery and furniture by using friendly cleaning solutions.  We only shop for the best furniture, carpets, and upholstery that can serve us for longer periods of time.

Increasing the Longevity of Your Upholstery

  • Invest in the right fabric – When buying your carpet, upholstery and furniture shop for the right fabric that can last you a long time. When you choose the wrong material, you will have problems increasing the longevity because it will wear out quickly.  Don’t allow yourself to be fooled by the brightness of color when choosing your upholstery rather settle for the firm fabric – even these come in beautiful colors.
  • Use green cleaning to clean your upholstery and furniture – Green cleaning ensures use of eco-friendly cleaning solutions that are not harsh on your fabrics and do not leave soapy residues. Upholstery cleaner phoenix uses the certified green carbonated cleaning solutions that allow your furniture to dry faster and resist dirt from settling back quickly, leaving your home safe for your children and pets.  Once your upholstery is cleaned, avoid placing it under direct sunlight to eliminate fading.  Remember, cleaning out your upholstery often will wear them out fast, a schedule for an annual professional cleaning is ideal.  To keep off dust and dirt, vacuum regularly with an upholstery attachment.
  • Use slipcovers for your removable cushions – Removable cushions bring life to the furniture and the entire house by brightening up dull days. You can choose some lovely colors with the right fabric to add a fresh touch to your home.  To keep your cushions in good condition, fluff, flip and rotate them to ensure they last longer and wear out evenly.  Feather pillows are one of the best choices because they have an excellent recovery when fluffed.  Most people do not like them because they poke out of the fabric.  This can be prevented by vacuuming with an upholstery attachment between the fabric casing and the cushion to prevent feathers from pushing through the fabric.
