How Do LED Grow Lights Help Plants In Cold Weather?

LED grow lightsLED Grow Lights are one of the newest phenomena in the market. Indoor growers find it hard to get natural light, and that’s where LED Grow Lights come in handy. Sunlight is the perfect balance of different wavelengths.

In the cold weather, it’s tough to get natural sunlight, and in some places, there’s a lack of it which results in plants dying out. Plants begin to thrive without sunlight. They only respond to specific wavelengths.

LED Grow Lights can be placed in the corner of a room or shed to grow plants even in the coldest climates. The growing area is measured, and lights are put up in the enclosed space. If you’re new to LED lighting, it is very easy to get started. They cost only a couple of bucks, and the results are truly amazing.

So, Does it really work in the cold?

The answer is a big YES, LED Lights create a warm climate inside the enclosed area and different wavelengths help the various stages of the plant to grow. Red Wavelength Light is helpful for plants who need help with flowering and fruiting while Blue wavelength is needed for the foliage growth. Plants don’t absorb green light which is why plants seem to appear greener while they’re merely reflecting the light. Plants use the same wavelengths as humans, although the ratio is inverted in their case.

Humans usually need green/yellow light since their eyes can adjust to it appropriately. Plants typically absorb reds and blues and mostly a combination of the too. They do use a tiny amount of yellow, green, UV and light reds but the needs of plants of these lights are for non-photosynthetic needs.

You need a whole visible color spectrum for your plant. You can grow succulents or even hybrid plants. If getting LED Grow Lights is not a possibility, then try getting a warm-toned LED or a full spectrum Grow bulb. The greater the brightness; the greater the growth. The price of 1000w led grow lights have fallen dramatically in past few years, and you can buy them under $250.

LED Grow Lights uses a very tiny fraction of electricity and are highly efficient to help plants in their growing process. The results of the growth can be seen in the high amount of yield. Growers can optimize lights according to their needs. As a general rule of thumb, lights are left on for an average of 12 hours and a maximum of 16 hours. Once the plant’s tissue temperature gets high enough, the plants stop responding to the light which is why only a certain amount of light should be given. They should get at least 7-8 hours of darkness in a day.

Another point to be kept in mind is the distance between the light and the plant. There should be a minimum of 12 inches between the light and the crop, otherwise it results in the crop or the plant getting burned.

No matter what the temperature is outside, even if it’s in negative, the temperature inside the grow tent or growing shed is what you choose it to be. Although you can run these lights for over 12 hours, it is also necessary to have an efficient cooling system which helps in maintaining a warm temperature that doesn’t burn the crops.

Overall, best LED grow lights are bliss for those who live in cold temperatures and need a legitimate source of light. They’re fast and efficient and easily maintain a specific climate within the specified area. The price you pay may be a bit too much at first glance, but it is definitely worth it after you see the yields.
