Top Tips to Lead An Eco-Friendly Life

Caring about the environment is something that we all should do. Our daily actions can have a more significant impact on the world than we believe. Little things matter, and it is not that difficult to live an environmentally friendly life. We are here to share with you some simple tips that should help you get on the right track.

Clothes

The clothes you buy matter. If you can, try to avoid certain fabrics such as acrylic or polyester. Replace them with linen, hemp, cotton, organic wool or other similar fabrics. Fossil fuel is used to produce synthetic fabrics.

Additionally, the fabric can be harmful to your skin and the quality is questionable as well. Washing these clothes also releases Nano plastics into the oceans. If you can try to buy your clothes from second-hand stores. There are also apps and websites that will show where you can buy reused stuff.

Storage

Being eco-friendly is possible even when it comes to storage. There are some simple things that you can do when you are storing items. For example, start by replacing tape with ties. It takes a lot of energy to manufacture tape and you usually use a lot of tape when you want to secure something. Try to use ties instead since they are reusable.

These tips also work when it comes to public storage. You should find a place that allows you to customize it a bit, such as public storage baton rouge. For example, you can make some changes when it comes to lighting. If there are regular incandescent light bulbs you can replace them with light bulbs that are energy efficient. You will end up saving money and protecting the environment as well.

Use your laptop for notes

If you tend to take a lot of notes, or if you are a college student, try replacing the paper with a laptop, a tablet, or even your phone. This way you will end up saving a lot of paper. If you are not able to do that, or if your professors won’t allow you to, remember to recycle the paper when you no longer need it.

Vampire power

Vampire power is a term that refers to all the electricity that is used by appliances which are not turned on, but still consume energy because they are plugged into the grid. In order to avoid that you should buy economic appliances or get a power strip. A simpler method is to plug out all the devices that you no longer use.

Transportation

Cars are bad for the environment, and there are things that you can do in order to reduce the effects. If you can, use a bike to go to work, or simply walk there. This way you will also be able to exercise and improve your health. If that is not possible, try to use public transportation.

For those who can’t give up on their cars, you should know that it is possible to pollute less by not pushing the throttle to the maximum. A small change of speed can have a huge effect on how much gasoline is burnt. If you don’t over-rev all the time, the amount of gasoline consumed can be reduced by half.

You should also make sure that you reduce the number of car rides. When you go out try to combine as many tasks as possible. For example, if you are out seeing a movie, go grocery shopping afterwards as well.

Reduce the amount of paper you receive

This one is quite simple. All you have to do is start paying your bills online so that you won’t receive paper bills every month. Think of all the paper that is wasted each month when it comes to bills. Advise your friends and family to do the same.

You should also unsubscribe from all the junk mail you get. If you want to read a book or a newspaper remember that you can do that online. Purchasing an e-reader can also be a great idea. It is time to take advantage of all the benefits technology can offer us.

Washing your clothes

It was believed that hot water is needed in order to wash your clothes. However, when it comes to most washing machines, that is not true. Use the cold water option if you can. The results are the same, and you will save a lot of energy.

When you do the laundry you should also use a large load of laundry instead of multiple smaller ones. You will waste a lot of water and energy by washing a partial load.

Don’t use plastic bags

Plastic bags can be easily replaced with reusable bags. You just need to remember to take them with you when you go to the grocery store.
