3 Ways To Save Energy When Using Your AC Unit

AC unitThe importance of saving energy is a no-brainer. Although this doesn’t seem too obvious, your energy usage directly affects the environment. When you use less energy in your household, there will also be less greenhouse gases released by power plants. Hence, you are not only saving a few bucks, but are also contributing to the conservation of the natural resources and the ecosystems. In this article, we will share some of the most effective ways to save energy when using your air conditioner as this is one of the most frequently used appliances.

  1. Minimise the sources of direct sunlight.

While a bright and airy space looks good in your home or office, it can be warm when temperatures rise eg. such as in summer. If sunlight is entering the room directly through the windows, your air conditioning unit will be required to work harder in order to cool the space. With this, the most basic solution to this is to reduce the amount of direct sunlight that comes into your space with the use of blinds or curtains. This offers greater flexibility because it allows you to adjust the level of sunlight that enters. Alternatively, you can also cluster huge leafy vegetation close to the direct source of sunlight in order to minimise the amount of sunlight while at the same time allowing you to beautify your place.

  1. Use a hand fan for the first few minutes after turning on your air conditioner as support.

Most of the time, air conditioning doesn’t feel as cool as expected due to poor circulation of the cold air. A cost-efficient yet effective approach is by using a hand fan or simply old newspapers or magazines that can serve as your hand fan in order to get the wind going. It is recommended to turn up the air conditioning unit by two degrees and then manually fan yourself for at least five minutes or until you feel cool and nice when you stop.

  1. Clean the vents of your air conditioner every month.

The vent is the part where cool air blows out. Due to constant usage and exposure of this appliance, it can get dirty and clogged pretty quickly. When your vents are clogged, the unit will have to work extra hard to cool the room and will use up more energy. Hence, your electricity bill will soar.

Aside from increasing your energy usage, lack of proper maintenance will also damage your air conditioner, particularly the filters inside. So make sure to clean it every month or hire someone to do it for you.

How an Air Conditioning Specialist Can Help

Your home or office air conditioner is extremely important in establishing a healthy and comfortable environment. However, when not maintained properly, your air conditioning unit can also be the reason for your increasing electricity expenses. So when you need to upgrade the air conditioner in your home that is using up too much electricity or it gets broken leading to insufficient ability to cool your workspace, it is recommended to consult with a reliable commercial air conditioner repair company.
