Holistic Acne Treatment

A sudden flare of acne can be a stressful and even embarrassing time in anyone’s life: this includes teenagers and adults. Nothing can be more frustrating then waking up one morning with a sudden break out, only to find that the conventional methods are no longer working for you personally. That is to say that they even worked for you before. Everybody has different skin, and that skin can react differently to different stimulants and chemical treatments. That includes various creams and medications for acne – what might work for a family member or a friend may not work for your skin. However, there is no need to worry. Holistic medicine offers a variety of different cures and home brewed methods to tackle even the most intense outbreak of persistent acne.

If you choose to go down the holistic route of acne treatment, this could even stop arguing and inner turmoil due to defective acne treatments. Some parents of young teenagers may even refuse to allow their child the stronger acne medication, such as isotretinoin because they are worried it is too potent for someone of such a young age. This of course not only damages the relationships between children and parents because of built-up resentment, it also damages the self-esteem of the teenager in question. They are forced to socialise and go to school while feeling incredibly self-conscious about themselves and their appearance. In some terrible and extreme cases, this could potentially lead to bullying. This is why some people will turn to Holistic acne treatment instead.

What are the holistic treatments for acne breakouts and persistent acne?

Surprisingly enough, there are actually many traditional and holistic methods regarding persistent or intense acne breakouts, several of which have been listed below:

  • Gel or alternatively, cream, made out of tea tree: The harsh antibiotics that are used to soothe acne can have several uncomfortable side effects, such as discoloration of the skin. And obviously, once the acne has been exposed to the antibiotics in question, they can grow an immunity to the drugs (otherwise known as antibiotic resistance, a growing international concern). However, the use of tea tree has been shown to be effective against various different types of acne. The medicine can even be made at home. It does not need to contain too much tea tree, only about 4% or so in total to be effective.
  • A lemon and honey mask: Even if It can become messy and slightly tedious, a mask comprised of lemon and honey can be highly effective when it comes to cleansing acne bacterium. It must be applicated to the afflicted area – typically speaking, this would be somewhere on the face, usually the forehead – several times a week. The natural anti-bacterial and moisturizing abilities of honey joined with the anti-bacterial properties in lemons can clear up acne breakouts consistently and effectively.
  • Apple cider vinegar: Applying apple cider vinegar to the afflicted area can actually prove to be quite effective when it comes to dealing with acne breakouts. Like many other strains of vinegar, apple cider vinegar is known for anti-bacterial fighting abilities. This comes in handy when dealing with acne as it contains several organic acids that can destroy p.acnes, the bacterium that causes acne. Apple cider vinegar can also help with the possible scarring that some forms of acne can leave behind. It can also help to dry up the excess oil that is known to cause acne in the first place.
  • Witch hazel: Witch hazel is a bark extract from the North American witch hazel shrub. It contains organic material such as tannins which has anti-inflammatory properties.
