With more and more people looking to take a green vacation, it only makes sense to think about road tripping in an electric car.

EV better than flying

Instead of flying in a carbon intensive airplane to the Continent, you can leave no emissions behind you by traveling by electric car instead.

Though it isn’t without some slight challenges, road tripping in an electric vehicle is a great way to guilt free travel.

With personal leasing options that are very friendly, there has never been a better time to get yourself in an electric car.

In this article I will help you find the best way to see Europe in an electric car so you have a game plan that sets you up for success.

Tip 1 – Map Out The Charging Stations

The most obvious drawback of driving an electric vehicle is that there are not nearly as many charging stations as there are petrol stations. Unless we are talking about the UK which has charging stations outnumbering petrol by about 1.5 to 1.

When you are traveling, you can’t simply hope to come across a charging station when your car is starting to run out of juice. You’ll need to have daily distance limits firmly in place.

Tip 2 – Understand What Type Of Charging System Each Country Has

Make sure when you get your car that the dealer includes the different types of cables that you’ll need for different systems. You can always buy some online before you leave if you don’t have them, but it’s important to research which ones each country uses.

Tip 3 – Be Strategic About Where To Sleep and Sightsee

You may need a few hours to charge your car so you should use that time wisely. Try to plan your trip around the places you may want to visit that also have charging stations. If it takes a couple of hours to charge then stopping somewhere interesting that also has a charging stations will kill two birds with one stone.

Tip 4 – Incorporate Green Sensibilities Throughout Your Trip

Though it is comendible to use a green vehicle on your road trip, you’re only partly there when it comes to eco travel.

Try to follow some other tips for green travel into your vacation like wearing sustainable clothing and avoiding bottled water.

Tip 5 – Network With Other EV Owners Along The Way

Before you set out on your journey, try to connect with other electric car owners in the countries you plan to visit.

EV owners are usually very community oriented and will love to help you plan your itinerary to get the most out of your trip. They can also serve as a point of contact in case you find yourself in trouble.

Running out of energy and far from a charging station? Ring somebody up and ask them for advice. Need some repairs done? Get a recommendation on a mechanic who can handle working on electric cars by a local.

Tip 5 – Have Fun

Electric vehicles are not just for short commutes these days. Use yours for an unforgettable road tripping in an electric car experience!
