Everything You Need to Know About Solar Panels in 2020

Feeling a bit behind on the whole solar panel trend? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about solar panels in 2020!

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), adding up industrial, commercial, transportation, and home energy use, last year Americans consumed 74,973 British Thermal Units (BTU). Unfortunately, much of our power still comes from non-renewable resources.

Many people do not make the switch to alternative energy sources simply because they do not know enough about it. Learn more about getting solar panels in 2020!

Information on Solar Panels in 2020

Do you know enough about the source of your power or why you should consider changing it? Read on for more info on solar panels for your home and other needs.

Solar Power

Solar power refers to the energy fueled by sunlight. This energy always exists within the sun’s rays, but solar panels allow you to actually harness it for use.

Solar Panels

Within the panels, solar photovoltaics (PV) turn particles of light, called photons, into electrical voltage. This occurs via the photovoltaic effect.

This process creates a voltage when radiant energy strikes two unique substances in close proximity to one another. In the case of solar energy, the sunlight excites electrons within the cell to create produce usable power.

For this to happen, solar panels contain several important elements:

Solar Panel

Often made of silicone crystalline, many solar cells combine to form a panel. This panel collects the sunlight to ignite the photovoltaic effect.

Inverter

That process created direct current (DC) energy that still needs processing for use. The inverter turns it into alternating current (AC) that we can use in our homes.

Electrical Panel

The building contains an electrical panel. It powers the electrical units in the building as AC pours into it.

Electricity Meter

This meter measures the excess energy created. The energy does not get wasted, but rather flows into a larger energy store.

Energy Grid

The grid serves as an energy reservoir for the energy company. As the unused energy flows here, the bill holder will see credits back to them onto their next bill, as they actually supplied a small amount of energy for others to use.

Benefits of Solar Energy

This renewable resource will never run out. It also offers us a sustainable alternative to burning fossil fuels, which create gaseous emissions that create harm to our environment and pose a risk to us.

Solar power also provides energy efficiency. During transport from supplier to consumer, traditional power sources lose some of the energy. While, whether you have solar panels for home or other locations, they feed it directly into your electrical panel.

Solar Panels Cost

Home solar installation may run you anywhere from $15,000 to over $25,000. Solar panels for RV may cost you less than $4,500.

This may sound expensive when your home already provides the infrastructure for gas and electricity. But, you will save in the long run as this energy has no production cost. Also, you can receive solar tax credit until 2021.

Switch to Solar

If you do not already own solar panels in 2020, then now is the time to switch. You will always need energy, so why not get it from a source that will never go away?
