Updating your home is one thing – figuring out how to do it in an eco-friendly way is another. How can you find the best solutions that are going to match your budget and the sorts of eco-friendly things that you want to be able to achieve? Your air conditioner is, likely, one of the biggest energy users in your entire home. So, how sure are you in a finding a more eco-friendly air conditioner? Here are four tips that can help you to find the right option.

1. Get a Programmable Unit (or Connect to a Programmable Thermostat)

The more control you have over your air conditioning unit, the more money you’ll save. You don’t want a unit that is just going to give you “high” and “low” as options. You want to find a unit that is going to have specific temperatures that you can set. That way, you can ensure that the room (or your entire home, depending on what you get) is going to be at a comfortable temperature.

2. Look for Energy Star Logo or High SEER Ratings

The Energy Star logo has become a mainstay in our retail stores. It’s easily recognizable and people know that they’re getting an eco-friendly product when they purchase an appliance with that label. SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings are based on how efficient the system is.Firstly, they take the amount of cooling that the unit puts out (usually referred to as the BTU, or British Thermal Unit). It is then divided by the wattage the unit is using. The higher the number, the better efficiency the unit has.

3. Get the Right Size

How big is the space that you want to cool? Did you know that different sized air conditioners are going to do better in different rooms? It depends on how many square feet that room is. If you learn how to properly size your air conditioning unit, you can make sure that you’re getting a unit that is the perfect size for the room or space you want to cool. Your salesperson can help you to sort that detail out so that you can get the best results.

4. Maintain Your System Regularly

Every year, you want to get someone in to take care of maintenance. They can clean the unit, change filters, and make sure that everything is ready to go. If your system is maintained and kept clean, it’ll use much less energy. Cooling your home would be much more efficient than it would have been otherwise.

Summary: Invest in an eco-friendly air conditioner

If you put the time into the process, you will find that there are a lot of different ways in which you can ensure that you’ve got the tools you need to stay ahead of things. Explore your options online and see what a difference it can make to invest in an eco-friendly air conditioner for your home.
