5 Tips for Building an Eco-Friendly Wardrobe

Over the last few years, we’ve seen an enormous increase in the number of people trying to live more eco-friendly lives. But why is this so important?

The main reason we need to be greener is so we can protect our planet and all the people and things on it. If we continue to live the way we are, our world will not survive. However, this is not the only reason. Other reasons include it can help to save money, and it can save energy too.

The good news is that there are many ways people can live more eco-friendly lives, from reducing plastic use to reducing carbon emissions. Another great way people can live more eco-friendly is by building an eco-friendly wardrobe. If you want to know how to create an eco-friendly wardrobe, then keep reading below:

  1. Choose New Purchases Carefully

Instead of purchasing the first item of clothing you see, spend time choosing it more carefully. It’s a good idea to choose clothes that will not only look great now but will also continue to look great and be fashionable in the future. For example, instead of purchasing a puffer jacket that will go out of fashion quickly, consider buying a Max Mara camel peacoat from SSENSE. These coats have been fashionable for decades, and this is unlikely to change in the future.

  1. Explore Pre-Loved

Research suggests that in the past, many people avoided visiting pre-loved clothes shops. However, if you really want to make your wardrobe more sustainable, then buying pre-loved is the way to go. Not only is purchasing pre-loved clothes more sustainable for the environment, but it’s also cheaper too.

  1. Support Ethical Fashion Brands

If we want the world to change and become more eco-friendly, we need to support eco-friendly brands. These brands not only use sustainable materials but also prioritize longevity, meaning your clothes will last longer. Thankfully, finding ethically produced clothes is much easier than it used to be.

  1. Take Care of Your Clothes

If you take good care of your clothes, you will not need to replace them as often. There are lots of things you can do to make your clothes last longer, such as:

  • Wash your clothes less frequently
  • Avoid using the tumble drier when possible. Instead, air your clothes outside.
  • Choose an eco-friendly detergent
  • Purchase a steamer – these can help to bring old clothing back to life.
  • Take care of your shoes – if your shoes become muddy, it’s essential to clean them as soon as possible. If you let the mud dry on your shoes, they will deteriorate more quickly.
  1. Rent Items of Clothing

If you’ve been invited to a special occasion and want something nice to wear, consider hiring an outfit for the day. Not only will this save you money, but it is also more ethical. As well as this, it means you never have to be seen wearing the same item twice.

Almost all of us now know the importance of going green. However, while this may be true, many of us are unsure how to do this. One of the best and easiest ways to be more eco-friendly is by building an eco-friendly wardrobe. If you want to create an eco-friendly wardrobe, follow our tips above.
