Reduced Health Concerns by Eco Friendly Industries

Vigorous industrial growth and its consequences in the form of global warming, acid rain and serious land, air and water pollution has severely damaged the environment. Industries using toxic chemicals (solid, liquid or gaseous), non-biodegradable materials (glass, plastics, sand) and practicing untreated effluent discharge are big threat to the environment. ‘Eco friendly’ term was introduced to follow such practices which are not harmful to the environment. To rehabilitate the destroyed environment, industries are shifting into eco friendly setups. ‘GO GREEN’ approach allows industries to perform such methods which are safe, organic and environment friendly. When the products synthesized by industries are environment friendly then definitely they are user friendly as well. Being ‘organic’, ‘green’ or ‘eco friendly’ not only reduces the risks to the environment but it also ensures the quality employee and user experience without any expected harm or risk to their health.

For David Rowland, Head of Marketing at Engage EHS, any business person worth their salt will have an in-depth knowledge of health and safety policy and practice. This is because health and safety is not only an end in itself, it is a means to an end towards a more efficient business that has an improved bottom line and greater brand loyalty amongst consumers.

In eco friendly industrial environment, employer ensures the safe and risk free procedures and practices. Green practices make it possible that every system in an industrial or organizational setup is without any risk and harm to the environment and people. Appropriate handling of toxic materials, safe disposals of wastes and other green practices reduce the probability of fire outbreak, explosions, and dangerous spills and splashes, keeping the environment secure.

There are several other risks to the employees while working in manufacturing industry. Toxic chemical poisoning, hazardous liquid, solid or gas exposures, electrical shocks and fire burns etc. Eco friendly industrial setup minimizes all such risks to the worker’s health and safety by providing suitable solution of every problem. Replacement of highly poisonous chemicals with alternative less hazardous chemicals, substitution of flammable materials with non-flammable materials and recycling, reducing and replacing are common practices of eco friendly industrial system. Such methods reduce toxicities, risk of fire and other chemical exposures to improve health and safety of workers in plant.

Hazardous wastes of industries discharged without treatment results into serious land, water and air pollution which may lead to the alarming health issues. Air pollution is a major reason of respiratory syndromes, asthma, lung cancer and heart diseases. Intake of crops, cultivated on contaminated land can harm people with food poisoning, upset stomach, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. Serious health problems are also associated with water pollution like diarrhea, typhoid, hepatitis and other neurological and physical problems. All these health concerns linked with water pollution, land and air pollution can be reduced by providing eco friendly industrial system, which confirms treated effluents (lesser hazardous) discharging into air and water bodies.

Moreover organic food manufactured by eco friendly system is proved to be more nutritious and healthier. It reduces several health risks of different allergies and diseases associated with pesticides and chemical fertilizers which are not used in growth of organic food. Other eco friendly products may include cosmetics without side effects and skin related issues, cleaning equipment which does not emit harmful gases or fumes. Overall all eco friendly products are harmless and risk free for our environment, animals, and children and for our health.
