Guest Post: Top 10 Car Films of the 21st Century

Cars have been an important part of human life since their debut in 1886 with the Mercedes-Benz model Benz Patent Motorwagen; they have represented status, wealth and class and people pay massive amounts of money for other people’s views of them to be changed. The rise of the new technological age has brought exquisite designing and performance enhancements to luxury car which makes people yearn the car more. Since the dawn of photography and video, the public have been able to see cars that they could only dream to own making the rich go out and buy these cars.

Since the rise of the film industry from the late 1950’s, cars have been prominent in the mind of the public and iconic features like James Dean in the mid 1950’s just raised the profile of the luxury or sports car. This then prompted companies to start making these super cars like the Porsche 550, Austin Healy’s, Cadillac and Chrysler Imperial.

Every time I have watched recent films, I have found myself fixated on some of the lovely cars on offer to my eyes and I have produced a list of the movies and the cars I have found myself the most fixated in the last 11 years of the 21st Century.

2Fast2Furious (2003) – Audi A4, Bentley Continental R, BMW Z3, Chevvy Camaro, Chevvy Corvette, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Ram, Dodge Viper, Ferrari 360 Spider, Ford F-150, Ford Focus, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R, Toyota Supra

Death Race (2008) – Dodge Ram, Porsche 911, Jaguar XJS, Chrysler 300C, BMW E32

Gone in 60 seconds (2000) – Aston Martin DB9 & DB1, Bentley Continental, Cadillac Escalde, Chevvy Corvette, Ford F-350, Ferrari 355 F1, Lambo Diablo, Merc CL 500 & SL600, Porcshe 911, Rolls Royce Stretch Limo, Shelby Mustang GT 500

James Bond in Die Another Day (2002) – Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar XKR

Starsky & Hutch (2004) – Ford Tornino

Dark Knight (2008) – Batmobile

The Italian Job (2003) – Mini Cooper S

Cars (2006) – Lightning McQueen (based on Mazda Miata & Dodge Viper)

Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005) – VW Beetle

Kill Bill: Vol 1 (2003) – Pussy Wagon (Chevrolet Silverado SS)

Now you have to remember that these are just my personal favourites but there are many other 21st Century car films that unfortunately did not make the list, so I haven’t discounted them people. This would be my rankings of these films in ascending order.

  1. Gone in 60 Seconds
  2. 2Fast2Furious
  3. Dark Knight
  4. Die Another Day
  5. Italian Job
  6. Kill Bill
  7. Death Race
  8. Starsky & Hutch
  9. Herbie
  10. Cars

I put Gone in 60 Seconds first because of the range of cars that were available to see…it was just fantastic, maybe not the best movie in the world but the cars were amazing. Same really with 2Fast2Furious not a great movie but good cars. The most difficult decision was between 3-5 as they are good movies with great cars just thought that because it wasn’t the original Italian Job it lost a few points there and you cannot argue with James Bond and Batman hence the final rankings. The others had good cars but just weren’t iconic enough and were stupid re-makes.

Do you want to have a chance to own one of these cars? Then car leasing is the thing for you. You can do some Mercedes leasing so you can get the same feeling that Nick Cage did in Gone in 60 Seconds or you can be like Bond and try your hand at some Aston Martin leasing.

I would love to know if you agree with me, so I welcome your comments 🙂
